Herringbone and chevron are laying patterns, not a product type. The same board can be real timber, waterproof hybrid or vinyl plank. The pattern is the spec. It is the way the floor is cut, set out and installed, and it needs a specialist.
Classic herringbone uses rectangular planks that meet at 90 degrees, a staggered V that reads as European and traditional. Chevron planks are cut at 45 degrees so the V is continuous, with a cleaner contemporary line. Both take more planning and labour than a straight lay.

Feature living
The room guests see first. A patterned floor that does the architecture, not a sample tile. Planned so the V sits on the main axis of the space.
Luxury homes
Prestige Gold Coast interiors where craft is the brief. Timber, hybrid or vinyl in herringbone or chevron, specified in studio rather than guessed from a phone.
Open plan
Living, dining and kitchen as one floor. Directional lines that stretch the room, with the pattern running through joins and transitions.
Dining and entertaining
Where the pattern can be seen at table height and in evening light. Best in rooms large enough for the V to repeat, not a tight hallway.
Why herringbone and chevron on the Gold Coast
These patterns are craft, not a click-lock shortcut. They need room to read, a specialist to set them out, and a studio visit to see the scale. Compare timber, hybrid and vinyl boards at Bundall before you lock the layout.
Craft
Setting out, cutting and alignment are the job. A herringbone or chevron floor is architectural detail, not a straight plank run. We plan the axis in studio so the V lands where the room wants it.
Room scale
The pattern needs space. Open-plan living and prestige rooms let the V repeat. A small bedroom can fight the geometry. We will tell you when a straight lay is the better spec.

Specialist install
These layouts take more labour than a standard plank. Our own installers set out, cut and lay the pattern. It is not a DIY floor and not a shop-and-go product.
Patterns and materials we specify
In studio we walk herringbone against chevron, then choose timber, hybrid or vinyl for the room. No category grids and no price tables here.
Herringbone
Rectangular planks, no angle cut, meeting at 90 degrees. A staggered V that reads as classic European. Timeless in living rooms and prestige homes. The usual starting point when you want pattern without a sharp contemporary line.
Chevron
Planks cut at 45 degrees so the V is continuous, with a clean point down the axis of the room. More contemporary than herringbone, and more demanding to set out. Compare both patterns at Bundall. Photos on this page are herringbone installs. Chevron is specified in studio.
Timber, hybrid or vinyl
The pattern is independent of the material. Real timber for grain and longevity. Hybrid for a waterproof rigid core in coastal homes. Vinyl plank where acoustics and budget matter. We will match the material to humidity, traffic and the room, then lay it in herringbone or chevron.
